Luxury Spa Hotel
Where Moscow locals like to put up their visiting international friends, a trip to the outside suburbs of Barvikha and Rublevkas that’s an epicenter of Moscow wealth is Barvikha Hotel and Spa. Much like the urban exodus of downtown American to ritzier suburbs in the ‘50s and ‘60s, much of rich Moscow relocated to the safer outlying areas where this luxury spa hotel is located near Barvikha Village. Essentially one of the biggest high-end shopping center you’ll ever see, Barvikha Luxury Village is a United Nations of fashion with Bottega Veneta, Prada and TSUM department store as well as Bentley and Ferrari dealers.

Barvikha Hotel and Spa was designed by Antony Citterio, who did the interiors of NY’s Cooper Square Hotel, inside a modernist façade of slatted wood-panels and open glass. Inside, two walk around fireplace adorned in copper panels with thoroughly Italian lobby space of low-flung yet comfortable lounge furnished stocked with a clientele that “have made enough money to stop talking about money.” While this is a suburb, aside from shopping and eating at Russian top chef Anatoly Komm’s namesake Restaurant and Bar, a 20,000 s. ft. spa awaits with personalized 5 and 7-day packages popular with the billionaire wife set.
The Room
There is definitely a style gap that leaves many Russian hotels a few Rubbles short of the west. Luckily, Barvikha Hotel and Spa is not one of them. Part of the Leading Hotel of the World, more a sign of the clientele to expect that actual fortitude of the lodging, a glitzy clientele descend for weekend and multi-week stays in this surprisingly small hotel of just 65 rooms. Rooms are outfitted in rich exotic wood paneling with interiors by Citterio and B&B Italia yielding stylish seating areas in rich fabrics and muted-Italian design " at least by Russian standards. Well-spaced in their dimensions, most rooms average around 700-squre feet with private terraces or patios overlooking a manicured, if lackluster, garden landscape. Larger suite occupants can boast of their own fireplaces as well as bathrooms with steam showers and massage rooms. Bathrooms are some of the best designed in Russia with travertime marbles and bath products by Henri Chenot.
